Unlike Scottish Tablet or Edinburgh Rock, the exact origins of Raspberry Ruffles aren't especially well documented. The earliest reliable references we could find date back to the 1930s, when the Ruffles brand was already producing raspberry and coconut fondant sweets coated in dark chocolate.
Interestingly, "Ruffles" originally referred to the brand itself. Over the decades, many people simply began referring to the sweet as a Raspberry Ruffle, much like we often say Hoover instead of vacuum cleaner or Sellotape instead of sticky tape.
While we can't say for certain whether Raspberry Ruffles were first created in Scotland, one thing is beyond doubt—Scotland embraced them.
